It is safe to say we have been remiss in doing a lot of things lately…but one thing for sure if we have not updated our dear blog.
School work has been #1 priority this summer and for good reason but as we are just over 6 weeks until the wedding, it seems reasonable to turn our attention back to the rollercoaster ride of preparing to get married. Phew! It’s not an easy task and it is quite literally a labor of love.
That said, things are shaping up quite nicely.
We had a number of inquiries about how to dress for the wedding so we thought we’d share that information here…
There is no “expectation” but in general men will be wearing suit and tie and if you are inclined some striped socks. The ladies are welcome to wear summer dresses or cocktail dresses. Hopefully that will help with any questions about attire people might have…
At this point most people are saying that no matter what happens regarding the wedding as long as we are married at the end of the night, it will be a success and we do agree with that…though the hope is that there will be good food, good conversation, laughter, joy, celebration, good dancing and oodles of fun to be had as well.
We send our best,
Love,
Dave and Polly
Yesterday was the 100 day mark until our wedding. I expected to be more freaked out be that but I think we are doing okay.
Dave and I are busy at school in Northampton. We are currently doing the summer session of Smith College School for Social Work. It is 10-weeks of intensive academics. We a reading a lot and having fun, animated discussions about social justice, early child development and the therapeutic alliance (sounds fascinating, right?) Well, we love it. Truly.
It is safe to say the the wedding anxiety and planning has slowed a bit which is good for our sanity! We are just too busy keeping up with school work to do too much worrying about the wedding.
Other than that, the crane numbers are growing and we are looking forward to September.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
We should have some engagement pictures to post soon.
Be well and Go Celtics!
Love,
Polly and Dave
It is becoming clear to me that Dave and I don’t know what it means to take it easy! Never have taken it easy … and probably never will.
Dave is on tour right now with his band the Epicureans. They are likely coming to a town near you, so keep your eyes peeled. Also, Dave’s birthday was on Thursday and we had a show/party that was so much fun.
This Friday was my last day at my internship. Talk about sad and emotionally draining. I had an AMAZING time at my internship and I already miss the clients and the staff. It is hard to leave such a close-knit community behind.
In typical Polly fashion however, I left little time to wallow in this and scheduled a hair style trial in Newport yesterday…the Saturday after my last day at my internship…no rest for the weary.
I had a lovely time with my mother, she came to the hair trial…my stylist was GREAT, D’Ann at wavelengths. Have I mentioned our vendors are just the cats miaow. Having gentle, sweet, competent people/vendors is the absolute best thing one can do when you are planning something as involved and hectic as a wedding. After the hair trial, I found out I had a flat tire so while my mom and I waited patiently for AAA to come help change the tire, we folded origami cranes and chatted about wedding plans, had tea and gluten-free grilled cheese sandwiches with roasted orange pepper and garlic (YUM!) and marveled over how pretty the cherry blossoms are on the tree outside my mom’s kitchen window. It was perfect for an overcast, windy, cold spring day.
To top it all off, we went to see Made of Honor with Patrick Dempsey. It was really fun to watch. It’s not the most air-tight story or anything but I enjoyed it. I am a sucker for these romantic comedies.
Next week, my mother and I are going to NYC (where we will be joined by my sister) and we are going to scout out fabric for my wedding dress, makeup and do some gallivanting. I think it will be REALLY fun!
So it’s getting close enough to the wedding that I think we have to make a master plan for the next 4 months. When Dave gets back from tour, it’s going to be all systems go!!! Oh, and we FINALLY made plans to have our engagement photos taken at the end of May.
Thanks for listening!
Love,
Polly (No Dave this time cause he’s on tour.)
We think our mass email we sent our may have been too alarming and caused undue concern. Don’t get us wrong, we still think early booking is an excellent idea but we will be able to help everyone find suitable lodging that fits their wallet and personal needs. Promise!
Aside from that, we updated the lodging section of the site and have some new options available there.
Do not hesitate to email, leave a comment here or call us with questions.
Our email address is: pollyanddave(at)gmail(dot)org.
Off to fold some cranes.
xoxo,
Dave and Polly
So Dave and I were just watching the news and they are talking about how flight costs are going to SOAR for the summer. Oh no! I am hoping that this isn’t so terrible that people can’t come to the wedding. Ultimately though…we understand. Perhaps early booking will make it cheaper. Just putting it out there!
Love,
Polly (with Dave sitting next to me)
Hello Everyone!
So… the bad news is that the weekend of our wedding (September 13, 2008 in case you forgot!) there is a big boat show! (I suppose that is good if you want to look at boats). The reason it is bad is because there are more people vying for lodging and this means that all the hotels and innkeepers think they can gouge everyone and require a 3-day minimum and charge too much $$$/night for a room.
The good news is that I just I stumbled upon a GREAT site where people can rent homes/condos for pretty darn cheap (at least by Newport standards!)
Some of these places are rented by the day or bythe week. They seem to sleep anywhere from 4-10 people and they have some great amenities. Many allow pets and children, have laundry and are REALLY accessible to things. In some cases it works out to be on average $300/person/week. A pretty good deal. I think this is a great option and if you have questions about this or anything let us know!

Let us know if this helps AT ALL!

Polly and Dave
Hello everyone.
Last night dave and I went to see Colin Meloy (lead singer and guitar man of the Decemberists) at the Somerville Theatre. It was a lovely evening. We took a picture at the show since our site is so bereft of photographs (the reason being a long, sad tale of stolen computers and poorly backed up data…ugh). Here is the most charming of the photographs…
Speaking of photographs, we really are going to scout out “locations” for our engagement photo and have them done and posted sometime before we both start school again this summer!
Beyond all that, we are starting to hear murmurings and bubbling of people coming to the wedding. AWESOME! and details are actually coming together.
If anyone needs (or desires) origami paper to make more cranes, just let us know. We are more than happy to send off paper. If you are in the Boston area, we are planning a crane-making party, details to follow.
Other news, we met with our florist - Nature Contained, who seems hip, witty, sustainably oriented (i.e. flowers grown on local farms etc…) and talented (and LITERALLY across the street from the meeting house.)
Please contact us if you are having any questions, concerns, exciting thoughts or burning desires for origami paper.
Love, D&P
We can’t wait to see everyone!
There are so many reasons that we feel lucky and one big one is that we just love our vendors.
1) Our photographer Gwyn Colleen is such a charming talented and vibrant lady. Just the cat meow. We need to make an appointment to have some engagement pictures taken so we can adorn this site with some pictures of ourselves as a couple. All the pictures we had were stolen along with the computer that was literally stolen out of Dave’s luggage on the way to Austin, TX this past year…grrr…double grr…but anyways that is the past and the future is… Gwyn, who we just love! Here is her website. Not only are her photographs fresh and exciting but her blog is fun to read too! AND we feel special cause she mentioned liking our site on HER blog.
2) Our caterers are smoke and pickles out of Westport, MA. Dan and Sally are committed to using local growers and fisherpeople. We just love that. Dan has an awesome wood smoking grill thing and their food is fresh and inspiring. Dan was the pickle chef at the Back Eddy in Westport and I must say the Back Eddy is one special place and they have special pickles there taboot.
3) Polly’s Shoes…they are red and beautiful and they are Marcello Toshi shoes…that’s all we want to say because then it will be a surprise.
…More vendor love to come…
